Club Meetings

A big thanks to James Wynne for his lecture "It's a Scandal"on some of the more controversial issues now forgotten that arose in the various space programmes over the decades.
James covered topics such as the nudity images on the Pioneer probes, to astronauts getting paid for selling stamps they brought to the moon to finally attempted murder in a love triangle between astronauts.

Last night we held our April meeting of the Kerry Astronomy Club, After the usual intro talk, we welcomed our very special guest, Dr. Niall Smith, head of the Blackrock Castle Observatory, who gave us a talk entitled “The Universe through the quotes of Carl Sagan”.
Dr Carl Sagan (1934–1996) was an American astronomer, astrophysicist, and science communicator best known for making science accessible to the general public. He made major contributions to planetary science, particularly the study of Venus, Mars, and the potential for life elsewhere in the universe. Sagan was a strong advocate of scientific scepticism, critical thinking, and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI). He gained worldwide fame through his television series Cosmos, which inspired millions to take an interest in science, space, and humanity’s place in the universe.

After the usual intro talk, we welcomed back Tony O'Hanlon of LAC. He gave a fascinating talk on binary (double) stars.

Goran Loncar gave a very interesting talk on astrophotography. Goran explained the process that he uses and exibited some of the equipment that he uses. There was a Q&A section at the end.
